The title for this should actually be se déprendre de soi-même (stupid dA limitations).
se déprendre de soi-même is a line from the Foucault book I'm currently reading. It literally means "to untake oneself, oneself", it is the rather ambiguous formula: "to release oneself from one self". Long story short, Foucault was a poststructuralist concerned with subjectivity and its relationship with power structures; this formula pretty much means to actively seek ways to free oneself from a single "true" or "essential" self (yes, I mean true and essential ironically). Subjectivity as "a form of continual self-bricolage" (Paul Rabinow, Introduction: The History of the Systems of Thought, in Michel Foucault, ethics, the essential works 1, Allen Lane The Penguin Press, 1997, pp. xi-xliii.). As for why I've given it this title, I guess that's largely irrelevant but if you want some idea of how I approach flames, there it is. You invent self-destructions that have nothing to do with the death-drive. Dismantling the organism never meant killing yourself, but rather opening the body to connections that presuppose an entire assemblage ... You have to keep enough of the organism for it to reform each dawn ... You don’t reach the BwO ... by wildly destratifying. ... If you free it with too violent an action, if you blow apart the strata without taking precautions, then ... you will be killed, plunged into a black hole, or even dragged toward catastrophe. Staying stratified ... organized, signified, subjected ... is not the worst that can happen; the worst that can happen is if you throw the strata into demented or suicidal collapse, which bring them back down on us heavier than ever. Enjoy. The tedious story behind this flame is told in my journal: je est un autre. Also, a special, sarcastic, thanks to =laethian who picked a typo (which I've corrected to minimise the shame |
